No último domingo, 13, foi realizado em Los Angeles, no Staples Center, nos Estados Unidos, a cerimônia de premiação do 53º Anual Grammy Awards. Dentre as 75 categorias da premiação, sete são voltadas para a música gospel.  São elas “Melhor performance gospel”, “Melhor música gospel”, “Melhor álbum de rock ou rap gospel”, “Melhor álbum de pop/contemporâneo gospel”, “Melhor álbum de Southern, Country, ou Bluegrass gospel”, “Melhor Álbum de R&B Gospel Contemporâneo” e “Melhor Álbum de Gospel Tradicional”.

Os irmãos cristãos BeBe & CeCe Winans, ganhadores em outras edições, venceram nas duas categorias que foram indicados: “Melhor perfomance gospel” e “Melhor álbum de R&B gospel”. Por sua vez, a banda Switchfoot, ganhou um Grammy na categoria “Melhor álbum de rock”, com o CD “Hello Hurricane”, lançado em 2009. A canção “It’s What I Do”, de  Kirk Whalum & Lalah Hathaway, venceu como “Melhor música gospel” e “Love God, Love People”, do  Israel Houghton, foi eleito o “Melhor álbum de pop/contemporâneo gospel”. Ainda foram premiados os álbuns “Diamond Rio”, do Reasons, e “Downtown Church”, de Patty Griffin, respectivamente como “Melhor álbum de Southern, Country, ou Bluegrass gospel” e “Melhor álbum de gospel tradicional”. A cantora e compositora Amy Grant estava entre os indicados, mas não foi premiada nesta edição do Grammy.
